Facilitator of human potential  ·  Organizational learning & transformation

How we are together is how
the world becomes what it could be

I help people and organizations unlock what they're actually capable of — through learning, collaboration, and transformation that sticks. Always in service of something larger than the work itself.

Zarko Palankov

What I believe

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts

Human potential is routinely suppressed by hierarchy, power imbalance, and extractive structures. I believe organizations can be fundamentally different — more equitable, more adaptive, more human — and I've spent twenty years helping people build them that way.

The thread I keep pulling: what becomes possible when people are genuinely seen, trusted, and given real agency?

My guiding question across every engagement: in service of what? Not career. Not billing hours. Something that actually matters — more equitable institutions, more human workplaces, collective power that doesn't get extracted away. I'm drawn to approaches that sit at the intersection of Art of Hosting, Theory U, and systems thinking — practices that treat emergence as a feature, not a bug.

I also believe you can't do this work alone. I seek to work within values-aligned collectives rather than as a solo consultant — practicing what I preach: that a group of people working in genuine solidarity can do things none of us can do solo.

What I do

Working at the edge of learning, leadership, and systems change

My work shows up differently depending on what a system needs. But it always starts from the same place: how do we create the conditions for people to do their best work together — and to shift how their organizations actually work in the process?

Organizational transformation

Helping mission-driven organizations shift culture, build self-management capacity, and move toward more equitable, adaptive, and participatory ways of working.

Collective leadership

Cultivating leadership from every seat — strengths-based, inquiry-driven, grounded in Art of Hosting and systems thinking. Leadership as a practice, not a title.

Communities of practice & knowledge networks

Designing, launching, and stewarding learning communities across international development, global health, and humanitarian contexts.

Facilitation & learning design

Hosting workshops, retreats, and programs — in-person and virtual — that create genuine engagement, psychological safety, and lasting insight. Always with others, never solo.

Selected engagements

Where I've done this work

World Bank Group
Center of excellence & global health collaborative learning program Over a decade: first co-led an award-winning Center of Excellence supporting 350+ communities of practice across the institution, then built a full collaborative learning program from the ground up within a major global department — approaching knowledge management and peer learning differently than what's conventional in organizations like this one.
UNAIDS
Championing a culture of collaboration across the organization Leading the development of global Communities of Practice and implementing strategic organizational development interventions — fostering new and more effective ways of working across UNAIDS for better outcomes in the sector.
Global Fund for Children
Organizational transformation & collective leadership Created and delivered an 8-week leadership development program, then facilitated a participatory process for all staff to collectively reimagine the organization's core values — strengthening culture, trust, and staff engagement in measurable ways.
European Central Bank · IMF · Global Water Partnership · Polaris
Community building, capacity development & facilitation Across multilateral institutions and humanitarian organizations: building communities of practice, coaching senior staff on collaborative leadership, and developing institutional capacity for knowledge exchange and collective action.

Earlier work

Organizations I've built and led

Before consulting, I built organizations from scratch — which means I understand what it takes to go from idea to institution, and what it actually feels like to practice what you preach.

LeadIN

2015 – 2022 · Social enterprise

A leadership development social enterprise I founded on the belief that everyone can lead — regardless of age, title, or formal authority. LeadIN brought people together to discover their strengths, learn from peers, and develop practices that stuck. It grew into a self-organized fellowship with chapters across two continents and an alumni community of 200+ professionals.

The Global Language Network

2008 – 2015 · Nonprofit

A 501(c)3 I co-founded to make language education accessible and affordable in Washington DC. During my tenure: 800+ classes in 60+ languages, 10,000+ learners, and a tripling of the budget — built on volunteer energy, community trust, and a model that didn't require extracting value from anyone.
